This brass ring serves as a prison for the fiendish marionettist Peeckelhaeringh. It smells faintly of sawdust.
Fiendish Vessel
The ring is the vessel of a pocket plane called the Werfh. It is a vast sea of wood chips, crammed with intricate marionettes in all shapes and sizes. Peeckelhaeringh is confined to the plane by a curse, and he claims to grant a wish to those who release him.
While touching the ring, you can use an action to speak the name of Peeckelhaeringh. When you do so, you and up to five willing creatures within 5 feet of you are transported to the Werfh. While you are there, Peeckelhaeringh is aware of your presence and senses the direction of your location. You remain in the Werfh for 1 hour, or until you use an action to return to the plane you were on. Once you enter it, you can’t enter again until the next dawn.
Peeckelhaeringh’s Gift
You gain the following benefits while wearing this ring:
- You have resistance to fire damage.
- You can speak, read, and write Infernal.
- You gain proficiency with woodcarver’s tools. If you already have it, you gain expertise with woodcarver’s tools.
Curse
This ring is cursed. Attuning to it curses you until you are targeted by the remove curse spell or similar magic. The curse manifests as a recurring nightmare, in which you become a marionette controlled by Peeckelhaeringh. Whenever you wake up, you are restrained by a tangle of strings (as if you were hit by a net). The strings disappear after 1 minute.
In addition, the ring’s unnatural presence causes some animals to become frightened of you (at the DM’s discretion).
